ACNE SCAR LASER TREATMENT | FRAXEL LASER
There has been many new developments in the treatment of acne scars with lasers, in recent years. The most recent development is the introduction of fraxel lasers.
FRAXEL LASER TREATMENT FOR ACNE SCARS:
In the early days of laser treatment for acne scars they used a Carbon Dioxide laser, which works by destroying s the top layers of the skin, which then allows the body to re-grow a new scar-free skin surface. There’shealing period of about a week to ten days, during which the skin is an open wound. Additionally there is some risk of side-effects with CO2 laser, like skin whitening etc.
The newest non-ablative lasers for acne scar treatment does not remove the top layers of the skin. They are non-destructive. These newer lasers are more effective at treating acne scars than the ablative laser and have less risk . One effective type of laser is the pulsed-dye laser, which can take the redness out of the acne scars. This can quickly, in a month, improve the appearance of acne scars very effectively.
FRAXEL LASER.
Another new type of laser that has been used to treat acne scars is the fractionated laser for acne scarring. These are also know under their trade names Fraxel® or Affirm®. Fraxel Fractionated laser treatments can produce remodeling in acne scars without the downtime of ablative laser resurfacing.
The Fraxel laser technology was developed by Drs. Deiter Manstein and Rox Anderson at Harvard University.
